Eustachian Tube Problems
It occurs when the Eustachian tubes, which connect the middle ear to the back of the throat, become blocked, swollen, or do not function properly. These tubes help maintain equal air pressure on both sides of the eardrum and allow fluid to drain from the middle ear. When the Eustachian tubes are not working correctly, it can cause a range of issues such as a feeling of fullness or pressure in the ears, muffled hearing, pain, or even fluid buildup in the middle ear, leading to conditions like otitis media (middle ear infection). Eustachian tube dysfunction (ETD) can be caused by factors such as allergies, colds, sinus infections, sinus congestion, or environmental changes in pressure (e.g., during flying or diving). Treatment often involves decongestants, nasal steroids, or in some cases, surgical intervention if the problem persists.
If you think you might have issues with your eustachian tube, it could be due to your ears. Get in touch with your ENT specialist in London to book a consultation today! 020 3897 0667
